Who Leads The Church?
New City Church is led by Elders (pastors), served by deacons, and sustained by the work and ministry of every church member. We call this “Elder Led Congregationalism.” Practically that means that the work and ministry of the church is carried out by the members of the church. Every member has a job to do: To protect the Gospel and carry out the mission of Jesus by loving, caring for, teaching, and encouraging one another in the truth of the Gospel.
The Bible tells us to appoint qualified men as pastor-shepherds over the flock. Our pastors equip the saints to carry out God’s call on their lives by teaching, caring for, counseling, and shepherding the people of God.
The Bible also tells us to appoint deacons (which means “servant”) to assist in the day to day ministry of the church. Deacons serve the church by leading various ministries, such as Children’s ministry, greeting teams, etc.
